Welcome to the Oʻahu Choral Society
The Oʻahu Choral Society (OCS) was formed in 1995 as an administrative body for the Honolulu Symphony Chorus. For many years, OCS functioned under the umbrella of the Honolulu Symphony. OCS also gave independent concerts at Kawaiahaʻo Church and other venues. Since 2009, OCS has continued to perform major choral works with full orchestra, where possible, as well as smaller works with chamber ensembles, organ, and piano. Local artists are featured as soloists, and OCS joins with other arts organizations in the community to deliver choral music suitable for the entire family.
The mission of the Oʻahu Choral Society is:
- to present the highest quality performances of great choral music for the enjoyment and enrichment of the community of Hawaiʻ
- to be a passionate leader and contributor to the cultural and artistic vitality and spirt of Hawaiʻi
- and to support and cultivate the love and appreciation for choral music.
OCS has commissioned new works by local composers, performed with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Musicians and the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony, hosted the visiting Junge Kammerphilharmonie Freiburg (from Freiburg, Germany), and collaborated with singers, musicians, and dancers on Oʻahu and Maui.
Mahalo nui: OCS concert performances are made possible by grants from the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and from our many friends and supporters.
